Introduction
When people hear of serial killers, they automatically assume that they lack empathy and remorse for their victims. This may be true because why would someone kill people? However, there are certain instances that we have seen serial killers show remorse for their actions either during their imprisonment or later on in life. So, here are 5 remorseful serial killers.
1 Ricardo Caputo
The first serial killer on our list who showed remorse for killing his victims is Ricardo Caputo. He murdered several women in his wake. He killed his girlfriend Judith Becker, and Natalie Brown who tried to end their relationship. He also murdered Barbara Taylor and Laura Gomez. Later on, he was remorseful for his actions, turned himself in, and apologized. He claimed to face nightmares from the crimes he had committed. However, while imprisoned, he suffered a heart attack in 1977 and died.
2 Frank Cano and Steven Dean Gordon
Frank Cano with his partner, Steven Dean Gordon known as “Jaws” murdered four women in California between 2013 and 2014. They abducted, raped, and murdered four women. Later on in life, Jaws expressed deep remorse for his actions. He agreed that murdering those people was beyond evil. He showed how sorry he was by crying and apologizing for his actions. His realization of the gravity of his crime was when his niece wrote a note to him, calling him “evil” and “disgusting”. There is no proof regarding Frank Cano apologizing for his crimes.
3 Wayne Adam Ford
Wayne Adam Ford was a former U.S. Marine and long-haul truck driver. He killed several people in his lifetime. He raped, beat, strangled, and bound his victims before killing them. He dismembered the breast of one of his victims. In 1988, Wayne confessed to murdering four women. He went to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department in Eureka, California to confess. People were shocked that he went by himself to confess to his crimes. This case goes to show that even serial killers when overcome by guilt can be remorseful for their actions”
4 Michael Ross
Fourth on our list is serial killer Michael Ross. Between 1981 and 1984 he killed several people in New York and Connecticut. Girls and women were usually his targets. He would kidnap them, rape them and murder them. He was remorseful for his actions later, which was evident when he refused to appeal for his death sentence. However, he tried severally to escape from prison but failed.
5 David Berkowitz (Son of Sam)
David Berkowitz, known as the “Son of Sam” committed several murders in New York City in the 1970s. He killed six people and wounded seven people. He was finally arrested in 1977. In 1987 he became a born-again Christian and apologized for his actions. He claimed to feel very guilty for all the crimes that he committed.
Conclusion
As seen in these serial killers, not all of them have a dead conscience. Some of them feel bad and guilty for their actions even when they do not feel it immediately. This is evident when some of them go to the police to turn themselves in for their crimes. What can be done?
