8 Things You Should Never Ask Your Private Investigator to Do

8 Things You Should Never Ask Your Private Investigator to Do

Our private investigation agency in Yukon, Oklahoma receives some interesting requests from our clients. Many of the things they ask our private eyes to do that we absolutely cannot help them with often come from new clients who have never had to hire a private detective before. Indeed, our legal team receives all kinds of requests for assistance every day, and most things our potential clients ask for fall within the standard moral and legal boundaries of society. Some of the most common types of requests that we must decline, of course, include, but are not limited to, the following:

Hacking Into Someone’s E-mail, Phone, Social Media, or Computer:

One of the most common things that some of our PI clients ask to do that are big, “No, no” items is hacking into other people’s stuff. They may want to find out what their spouse or other romantic partner is up to. They are wishing to peek in on an adult child, on another family member, or a close’s friend’s technological happenings. Whatever the case, please do not ask any civil private investigator at our PI agency to do this for you. It is incredibly illegal and unethical for us to do so.

Even law enforcement agencies, except the National Security Administration (NSA), needs to first obtain a solid search warrant or have solid probable cause to search for a suspect’s phone. Private eyes in Oklahoma and other states in the USA are not law enforcement officers. As such, please remember not to ask one of our legal pros to hack into someone’s personal devices or social media.

Threatening/Intimidating Others:

Someone reading this might look at this second subtitle and wonder why in the world a client would want to find a private detective to help intimidate or threaten someone else. Well, unbelievably, or private investigation agency in Oklahoma City does receive occasional requests to threaten and intimidate someone who owes our potential clients some money. Obviously, we cannot assist them with this endeavor.

Attacking people, making terroristic threats, or acting as enforcers on bad loans and debts is both immoral and illegal. If you are doing a Google search right now to see if it is permissible to locate a private investigator and request this type of task, please do not do it.

Placing Tracking Devices on People/ or Their Cars:

Since 2019, the State of Oklahoma no longer allows private investigators or others to place tracking devices on someone’s vehicle without their express consent. The fact that it applies to private detectives in Bethany is stupid, because it makes practicing their professional careers much more difficult. Nevertheless, since it is the law, it is vital that prospective clients do not ask anyone at our PI agency to do it.

Anyone who places tracking devices on people or their vehicles without their express consent in the State of Oklahoma will, under our weird laws, be guilty of a misdemeanor stalking charge. Aside from the costs and stigma of an arrest, bail bond, and attorney to try the stalking case, if Oklahoma private eyes end up with certain misdemeanors or any felony on their criminal records, they may not keep or renew their Oklahoma private investigator licenses. Thus, the money is not worth it from clients for this service, since the risk is so high.

One thing our legal firm can do in this situation is to conduct surveillance private investigations. This is when we go follow people around to see where they go, what they do, whom they are with, and when they go. This is especially helpful during child custody investigations, infidelity cases, and more. Our staff can go take photos and videos of people of interest’s (POI’s) with date, time, and location stamps on them to provide to our clients.

This still accomplishes the same effect as placing a tracker on a person and/or her/his/their vehicle, but our firm also has the potential to obtain videos and pics of the POI’s activities, too. The now-outlawed tracking devices do not have the capability of taking photos and videos of the POI. Thus, while the cost to hire a private investigator to conduct surveillance private investigations is higher than what it used to cost to place a tracker on someone’s vehicle, the potential benefits for the client are much greater.

Accepting “Payments” for PI Work:

No, our PI agency does not accept payments. We get our retainers and other amounts upfront, because the owners of our PI agency in OKC have no time to go chasing other people down later for the rest of the payment amounts. In addition, since no PI can guarantee results, some clients might not want to pay later if the spouse they suspect of infidelity does not go out and cheat while we are there.

Guaranteeing a Certain Result:

As noted above, no private investigator can guarantee a particular result. What the legal professionals at our firm can do is to try extremely hard within the parameters of the law and the extent of our training and expertise, to achieve the best possible outcome for our private investigation clients.

Extraterrestrials/Ghost Investigations:

You would be surprised by how many people call us asking for help investigating ghosts or other paranormal private investigations in Oklahoma. We do not believe in spirits or ghosts, and that is because they do not exist. As such, our Oklahoma private detective agency does not conduct these types of investigations, but there certainly are other firms and other organizations out there that do.

Accepting Cruelty/Maltreatment from Clients:

Most of our clients are extremely wonderful. They are polite, mutually respectful, pay the agreed upon fees upfront, and are grateful for our professional assistance. We love helping these types of individuals, and they make doing the work we do a wonderful, rewarding experience.

Some people who ask us for help are the exact opposite of the clients we mentioned above. They are rude, arrogant, argumentative, do not want to pay us but want us to work, and are extremely toxic, difficult people in general. This type of clients drains us out financially, emotionally, and make practicing our chosen legal profession abhorrently awful. Thus, our private investigation agency in Ponca City will decline to help these types of individuals, because they will fight us at every point.

Violating Other Local, State, or Federal Laws:

It is well known that our PI agency has an exceptional reputation for honesty, integrity, and high morals and ethics. As such, every private eye in Oklahoma follows all local, state, and federal laws and ethical guidelines for our chosen legal profession. Please do not ask us to violate any laws or hurt anyone, because we will not.

Conducting Drug Cartel, Mob, or Mafia Private Investigations:

Drug cartel private investigations are not an area our PI agency delves into. We leave that to law enforcement and other private detectives who are willing to confront those risks. Mobs, mafia, and cartels are not in our wheelhouse, so we will respectfully decline these types of criminal cases.

Working Miracles:

As with every other private investigator in Stillwater and people in the medical field and other professions, we cannot work miracles. Sometimes we get lucky when working when timing and luck work concomitantly to form the perfect result. Please understand that this is the exception rather than the rule.

Rest assured that we will always do our utmost best to help you with whatever situation you may have. Every civil private investigator at our firm will use all available experience, education, training, and best practices for our profession to help you have the best possible outcome for your case. We promise to always give you 110% maximum effort.

Hopefully, these are not things anyone who is reading wants us to do to provide our professional assistance. It is perfectly fine to may have previously considered one or more of the aforementioned items above, if you did not know they were illegal and/or immoral. Now that you find yourself armed with this vital information, you will have a better understanding of what constitutes appropriate and inappropriate types of requests for assistance from a private investigation agency in Oklahoma.
